How it started

A company we've been in conversation with shared a bottleneck they were hitting: searching and analyzing large-scale genomic datasets was taking their team far too long. We decided to tackle it head-on at the hackathon.

What we built

TraceNGS is a tool for searching and analyzing terabytes of RNA data from the SRA archive within seconds. We built a search engine containing 50k studies able to find the data you need and explain why, all in real time.

The judges placed us 3rd out of 68 competing teams.

What it became

TraceNGS evolved into what is now part of Omabit. The hackathon gave us a chance to pressure-test our approach against a real-world problem, and the result validated the direction we've been building toward: making large-scale data searchable and analyzable through a simple interface.
